MINUTES OF SCRANTON CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

JANUARY 14, 2004 MEETING

 

 

 

ROLL CALL

 

            All Members were present.

 

APPROVAL OF LAST MONTH’S MINUTES

 

            Mr. Nalevanko moved to accept and approve the December 10, 2003 Minutes as written.  Reverend Stringfellow seconded and said Motion passed.

 

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

 

            Larry Mulrine, Scranton Fire Department, advised that due to union elections, he would no longer be serving as the Department’s representative at Civil Service Meetings.  The new representative is Roger Rogalewicz.

 

COMMUNICATIONS

 

            A letter from City Clerk Jay Saunders, dated January 7, 2004, was received by Chairman Bubser requesting an explanation on the University of Scranton’s error made in administering the Police Sergeant’s test in December, 2003.  Mr. Bubser contacted Mr. Saunders and Councilman Courtright and explained the error and the steps being taken to remedy the matter and finalize this promotional testing.  Both men, the Chairman reported, were satisfied with the proposed course of action.

 

            Chairman Bubser reported that the reconvened portion of the written test will be completed on January 16, 2004 and that oral exams were scheduled for February 4, 2004.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

            See report on Police Sergeant’s Promotion Test above.  The Commission acknowledged that all six candidates who took the Fire Inspector’s promotional test had been mailed their written, oral and total scores.  Mr. Nalevanko moved to approve the Certified List and Reverend Stringfellow seconded said Motion.  The Motion passed.  Mr. Bubser directed the Solicitor to post the Certified List.

 

            Chairman Bubser directed the Solicitor to obtain the names and addresses of the panelists who sat on the Fire Inspector’s Oral Examination Panel and to forward thank-you letters to those persons.  Further, the Chairman directed the Solicitor to write a letter to the Clarion Hotel to thank them for providing lodging at no charge to one of the panelists.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

            The Commission, on a motion made by Mr. Nalevanko and seconded by Reverend Stringfellow, approved a Motion to pay the Solicitor’s monthly fee as budgeted.

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

            A Motion to adjourn was made and seconded.  The meeting was adjourned at 5:42 P.M.
