Adopt An Author

At the Valley Community Library

We strive to serve our patrons with current material in books, DVDs, and magazines as well as copies of the classics and early writings of authors.

Currently, we are limited in our buying selection due to further state cuts in the library budget. We have been restricted in our purchase power to material from bestselling fiction and non-fiction authors that will appeal to the majority of our patrons. This is reducing our selection and leaving off some new, exciting, upcoming writers or those that have not made the best sellers list.

Some of your favorites might not be purchased, or only bought when the material is available in soft cover, a delay of 6 months or more. In order to stretch our dollars, we are initiating Adopt-An-Author program.

We will purchase the next book published by your adopted author at a discounted price of $25.00 per book. You will be notified when the book arrives and you will be the first reader. Should the author be part of the lecture series sponsored by the Lackawanna County Library System, you will receive an invitation to meet him/her. A bookplate will be placed in the front of each book purchased stating it was purchased by you as part of the Adopt An Author program.

This donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, as you received neither goods nor services from the library in exchange for this donation or for any portion thereof. Your returned check will serve as your receipt for tax purposes.
